A Belleville man has been charged with a felony after police said he shot a AK-47 into the air during a fight in the Villa Hills subdivision near Belleville.
David W. Eschenfelder, 19, of 21 Geri Ann in Belleville, has been charged by the St. Clair County State's Attorney with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
The fight, which involved several people, occurred Oct. 3 after the Chili Cook-Off in Belleville. Eschenfelder is accused of shooting an AK-47 rifle into the air during the fight. The gun was recovered by officers when they responded to the fight.
Eschenfelder was arrested by St. Clair County Sheriff's investigators Scott Toth and Mike Hundelt Tuesday at his home.
His bail was set at $10,000. Eschenfelder posted bond that evening and was released from custody.
