Belleville priest slept with boy who later became a priest

The Rev. Albert E. “Gene” Kreher, a retired priest in the Belleville, IL Catholic Diocese, says he regularly slept with but didn’t molest a 13-year-old youth decades ago who sought help and later became a priest. Kreher said Bishop Edward Braxton told him in 2010 to write a letter of apology but kept him as the overseer of the local Boy Scouts council.

Illinois teachers’ pension system faces $71.4 billion unfunded liability

An official from the Teachers’ Retirement System of the State of Illinois said the pension system for teachers, administrators and public school personnel faces challenges, including an unfunded liability of $71.4 billion. He says the pension system’s funding shortfalls stem from state legislation that created a continuous deficit that affects teachers and taxpayers in Belleville, IL, East St. Louis, IL Collinsville, IL, and Edwardsville, IL.
