Hamilton resigns as East St. Louis township supervisor; replacement named

The East St. Louis Township Board voted Thursday to accept the resignation of Supervisor Oliver Hamilton. He will be replaced by Tommy Dancy, a former County Board member.

Restaurant moves from Swansea to Belleville

The Swansea Family Restaurant will reopen Wednesday at 4421 West Main Street in Belleville, Illinois in the former location of Tasty’s Chicago Grill and Arby’s. Tasty’s opened in March and closed in September. The restaurant had been at 1500 North Illinois Street in Swansea, Illinois for about three years. That spot is now a Cholula’s Mexican Restaurant.

Belleville Crossing is getting a new restaurant

Jason Amarosa plans to open a new Burger King restaurant in Belleville, Illinois in the Belleville Crossing shopping center at the intersection of Frank Scott Parkway and Belleville Crossing Street. Construction is expected to begin in April and be finished by July.

Madison County high school has confirmed cases of whooping cough

The Madison County Health Department is working with Highland High School to control an outbreak of highly contagious respiratory disease whooping cough. Four cases have been reported at the Highland, Illinois, school since November. No other Madison County schools have reported cases of whooping cough, according to the health department.

DNA testing ordered in death of East St. Louis woman

DNA testing is set to take place more than six months after a 56-year-old man was accused of suffocating a woman with a pillow in East St. Louis. Cornelius Miller, of Florissant, Mo., was charged with first-degree murder in June after Illinois State Police investigated the death of Reginae Cotton.

Three charged with baby formula, TV theft from metro-east Walmart

Madison County authorities said tips they received from the public helped identify three out of four possible people suspected of stealing a 43-inch LG television, baby diapers and 75 cans of baby formula at Walmart in Godfrey. The Madison County sheriff’s office said three people charged with felony retail theft this week include 37-year-old Darnell Gregory, 33-year-old Lawanda C. Hamilton and 34-year-old Terry L. Little.
