Swansea, Caseyville, Washington Park get new mayors

St. Clair County voters did not return incumbents to their mayoral offices in Swansea, Caseyville and Washington Park.

“I would like to thank everyone that voted for me and gave me the opportunity to serve the village of Swansea,” said Swansea’s mayor-elect Michael Leopold. “It’s an honor.”

Current Swansea Mayor Ken Mueller said: “It is what it is. It’s hard for an incumbent to win an election in this day ... I hope he does well. God puts me where he wants me. I guess I am on to the next thing.”

Mueller said he had a good board who balanced the budget and created a surplus.

“What else can you ask for?” Mueller said.
