Illinois 157 was closed Monday morning to all traffic between Illinois 15 and Foley Drive near Belleville and East St. Louis because of a mudslide, the St. Clair County Emergency Management Agency confirmed.
Cahokia High School students had a vigil for math teacher Cory Herschler, who died. The 35-year-old was beloved by students and staff. Classes were canceled the day of his funeral because 37 of his colleagues and some of his students wanted to attend the funeral in Quincy. Students who weren’t able to go to the funeral organized the vigil.
St. Elizabeth's Hospital in O'Fallon is implanting a new monitoring device into patients with congestive heart failure. The device helps doctors monitor a patient, possibly avoiding a trip to the emergency room.
The Lawrence Group has received about $1.35 million so far from Belleville, according to Laura Conrad, the chief financial officer for the company. But Conrad said the company continues to seek $90,000 from Belleville.
