You might not recognize the latest flavor of Ski set to hit store shelves Wednesday.
A new logo for the brand is wrapped around 20-ounce bottles of Tropical Ski, a limited-time flavor. The bright blue drink will be made and bottled in Southern Illinois at Excel Bottling Company.
The Breese-based company has bottled Ski on South Broadway Street for five decades. The Ski brand is owned by the Double Cola Company.
Cortnee Young, a spokeswoman for the brand, recently confirmed plans to change the 61-year-old’s soda image.
“We’re in the process of rebranding Ski and revamping the Ski look,” Young said. “It’s a process we’ve been thinking about doing for awhile.”
A new label for original Ski is expected to debut in the next few months. Double Cola is still fine-tuning its edits, Young said.
As for the flavor of original Ski, no changes are planned.
“Our products are our priority,” Double Cola said in a statement. “Ski is already perfect, and we have no plans of changing the formula, ingredients or recipe for any of the Ski products. We are simply updating the packaging graphics for our cans and plastic bottles. Our goal is to keep our packaging relevant and appealing.”
Tropical Ski adds mango flavoring to the original lemon and orange formula.
Convenience stores and markets are expected to carry the drink in four states: Illinois, Missouri, Indiana and Kentucky.
