A housing authority officer was transported to a local hospital after being involved in an accident Saturday night, police say.
The officer was driving north on 15th Street and was struck by a vehicle traveling west on Baugh Avenue, according to chief of public safety for East St. Louis Housing Authority Cortez Slack. The officer suffered leg injuries. The other driver was uninjured.
Illinois State Police is handling the investigation, Slack said. The officer’s identity is not being released at this time, he added.
A previous version of this story identified the officer as a member of the East St. Louis Police Department and misstated Slack’s title.
