Seafood by Crushed Velvet has closed its downtown location as the restaurant prepares to move to St. Louis this fall.
The seafood restaurant owned by Jasmine Brooks is expected to reopen Oct.1 on Washington Avenue. Brooks said the new location will feature an expanded menu and a full bar.
“I’d like to say a special thanks you to the city of Belleville and its residents for being so welcoming to us,” Brooks posted on Facebook Thursday. “We look forward to returning home to Belleville in the near future.”
During the temporary closure, the restaurant will make its menu available through catering and special events in Illinois and Missouri.
Seafood by Crushed Velvet opened about a year ago at 121 E. Main St. in downtown Belleville. The restaurant offers lobster, snow crab, shrimp, gumbo and more.
“I’d like to take the time to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your support in making Seafood by Crushed Velvet a success over the past year and a half,” Brooks said. “I’m sad to announce that our Belleville location will be closing due to the building not being very accommodating for our setup.”
Brooks is also the co-owner of Belleville’s newest ice cream shop. She recently opened Scoops Ice Cream on West Main Street along with her business partner, Rayneshia Garrett.
