The Mississippi River was closed to vessel traffic Thursday after cracks were found in a gate at one of the locks just north of St. Louis, Reuters reported.
The cracks were found in a gate at the Melvin Price Lock and Dam near St. Louis, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers told Reuters. The cracks were found during a routine inspection.
In all, 15 barge tows were stopped due to the closure, according to Reuters.
Workers started to repair the lock midday Thursday and expect to have it reopened by 6 a.m. Sunday.
