The photo of a man who was at a home in Belleville just before it was burglarized has been viewed thousands of times and still, police had not been able to determine the man’s identity as of Wednesday.
On Sept. 7, the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department responded to a burglary report on Signal Hill Terrace. Someone had broken in through a window and stolen various items from the house, authorities said in a press release.
The homeowner captured on video surveillance a man walking past her house and then up to door prior to the burglary.
The homeowner shared a photo of the man taken from the video, where it was posted on the Belleville Crime Facebook page. According to the page administrator, the post has more than 25,000 views. Despite the views and more 500 shares, the person in the photo had not been identified as of Wednesday.
Police said they have not identified any suspects in the burglary.
On Wednesday, another burglary was reported in the nearby subdivision of Powder Mill, according to a press release. Capt. Bruce Fleshren wrote in the release that the house was “entered in a similar manner,” but they did not yet know for sure if the two burglaries were related.
“We hope that someone will come forward who recognizes this person in the video and help us. We always remind neighbors to watch out for each other and to immediately report suspicious activity or persons in their neighborhoods,” Sheriff Richard Watson said in the press release.
