House, Senate OK resolution to rename part of Illinois 161 for fallen firefighter

The section of Illinois 161 between Bartelso and Germantown would be designated the Firefighter Tim Jansen Memorial Highway under a resolution adopted by the Illinois House and Senate.

Jansen was a 15-year veteran of the Santa Fe Fire Protection District, based in Bartelso, who died in December 2012 while fighting a fire. He was run over by a fire truck.

State Rep. Charlie Meier, R-Okawville, said: "I am happy the Senate adopted this resolution that will honor a well-deserving man who gave his life while serving his community. Although Tim's family and friends will never forget the pain that accompanies such a tragic accident, the memorial highway honoring Tim Jansen will serve as a reminder of how much he is missed throughout the community he served for so many years."

Sen. Kyle McCarter, R-Lebanon, sponsored the resolution in the Senate. The resolution now goes to the governor.
