Coffee shop opens in downtown Granite City

Kool Beanz Cafe is brewing coffee in downtown Granite City.

The coffee shop has opened its doors at 1316 Niedringhaus Ave., where you can also find WiFi. The cafe is also about to expand its hours.

Scott Muir has just extended the hours at his barbecue eatery in downtown Belleville. You can now come to eat at Muir's Righteous Pig at 124 E. Main St. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10:30 to "4-ish." He is also open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to "6-ish." Call him at 618-520-8817 to find out more.

Mike Barron will have a customer appreciation day on Wednesday at his Quizno's in downtown Belleville. He opened the sandwich chain franchise about 18 years ago at 200 E. Main St. He will be open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday. You can call him at 618-236-9550.

McCullough's Flooring in Belleville has finished a showroom expansion. The flooring retailer at 4400 North Belt West has added another 5,000 square feet so the business can now stock all major flooring. Call them at 618-234-5005 to find out more.

And finally, this year's Brew & Que in downtown Belleville has grown following last year's inaugural event. This year's event will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and expand from one to two blocks along East Main Street, between Jackson Street and Charles Street. The craft beer walk will be held throughout downtown from noon to 5 p.m.

The number of vendors has increased from eight last year to a dozen this year and will include metro-east barbecue restaurateurs competing in the barbecue contest: Righteous Pig in Belleville, Hick's Bar-B-Que in Belleville, Tavern On Main in Belleville and Shooters BBQ of O'Fallon. The Belleville Fire Department and East Side Fire Department will also have a barbecue booth at the event. The winner of the people's choice barbecue prize will be announced at 7 p.m.

A dee-jay will provide music and live entertainment will include Old Salt Union. A carnival trailer will also be serving food and children's activities are planned.
