Prosecutor adds robe to his wardrobe in Madison County

An assistant state's attorney will become the newest associate judge in Madison County.

Philip B. Alfeld has been appointed an associate judge of the Third Judicial Circuit to replace retiring Judge Dean Sweet.

Alfeld earned his law degree at Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 1980 and has served as an assistant state's attorney and special assistant attorney general since 1989.

"I am pleased to have a person of Phil Alfeld's ability and experience joining us on the Madison County Bench," said Chief Judge David Hylla. "He will be a great addition."

Alfeld was a partner in Kardis, Forbes & Alfeld until 1995, when he became a sole practitioner until he joined Schrempf, Kelly, Napp & Darr in 1998.

Alfeld is past president of the Alton-Wood River Bar Association and past member of several professional associations, including the American Association of Trial Lawyers and American Bar Association.

Alfeld also teaches constitutional law at Lewis & Clark Community College and is a member of the criminal justice advisory board at the school.

Alfeld and his wife, Amy, have lived in Godfrey for 20 years.
