Ice cream shop has the scoop in Columbia

Former chemical engineer and Millstadt resident Darryl Hebel has opened an ice cream parlor in Columbia.

Marie's Ice Cream Shoppe at 1220 Columbia Centre serves hard- and soft-serve ice cream, milk shakes, malts and ice cream sundaes.

You can see and taste for yourself from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Call 618-477-7584 to find out more.

Blue Springs Cafe restaurant in Highland has changed hands. Employees have bought the business at 3505 George St. from the previous owner. You can still reach the restaurant at 618-654-5788.

Work continues on redeveloping The Horseshoe, a former restaurant in Collinsville that is making a comeback. Owner Bernie Clardy says he hopes to open the second-coming of the eatery at 410 St. Louis Road later this year. The new restaurant will include a new kitchen and dining room. Stay tuned.

Dress Barn will bring a second store to Belleville. The women's clothing chain plans to open at Belleville Crossing on Aug. 22. In the meantime, you can find them at 5720 North Belt West in Belleville or call that store at 618-234-4507.

Advance Auto Parts has opened a store in Fairview Heights. The auto parts retailer has set up a 6,600-square-foot shop in Plaza St. Clair, located just west of Schnucks at 525 Lincoln Highway. You can call them at 618-589-1453.

Collinsville economic development director Erika Kennett says the former Kmart shopping center in Collinsville will be auctioned online later this month. Last month, the city announced that the retailer was not renewing its lease at 1101 Belt Line Road and would close its doors after business on Sept. 7.

And finally, Impact Strategies in Fairview Heights has completed construction of Cedarhurst of Edwardsville. The $8 million memory care center at 7108 Marine Road in Edwardsville is a 32,987-square-foot, single-story building with 54 apartments with access to an interior outdoor courtyard.
