A Grafton restaurant has closed after a nine-year run.
The owner of The Mississippi Half Step has decided to step away from the eatery to attend to his family and his health. Edwardsville native and Grafton resident Jim Newton said he recently had surgery on both knees and he needs some time off his feet and with his family.
Newton opened the restaurant at 420 E. Main St. in 2005 while operating a pasta eatery in Edwardsville called Global Noodle, which closed the following year. Mississippi Half Step initially served pasta and later gained a following for its other entrees.
"People came to us for the pasta, but as time went on, we actually got really well known for steak, seafood and chops," Newton said. "I had no idea they would become so popular."
The historic building that has housed his business is for sale and is a turnkey operation for anyone interested in opening a restaurant. He would not disclose how much he is asking for the building.
Newton said he may open another restaurant sometime, but for now, he wants to spend more time with his family and take it easy on his knees.
Those interested in the building are asked to call 618-535-8822.
