Faulty sewer pumps cause mess for Madison County town

The failure of a pair of pumps has caused major sewer issues for the village of South Roxana.

Because the pumps are down, village officials said they were forced to let sewage flow into an open overflow lagoon to keep it from backing up into the basements of residents.

The pumps failed Tuesday morning. It could take until sometime Wednesday for both pumps, the only two the city has, to be repaired and return the village's sewer system to functioning normally.
