This weekend's slate of metro-east festivities includes two county fairs, two homecomings and a traveling exhibit from the Smithsonian Institute:
1. Hometown teams
The Smithsonian Institute's exhibit celebrating sports plus a local exhibit called "From Fields of Dreams" celebrates sports in Monroe County. The exhibit opens with a ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Monroe County History Museum, 724 Elaine Drive in Waterloo and will remain open until Sept. 7.
Also, a vintage baseball exhibition game between the Belleville Stags and St. Louis Perfectos will be played at 11:30 a.m. at 121 Plaza Drive in Waterloo.
2. County fairs
The Monroe County Fair begins at 9:30 a.m. Saturday and 10:30 Sunday at Monroe County Fairgrounds, 4177 Illinois 156 in Waterloo.
The Madison County Fair will be from 10 a.m. to midnight Saturday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday at Lindendale Park, 2005 Park Hill Drive in Highland.
The Smithton Homecoming will be from 4 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Saturday at Turner Hall, 15 N. Julia in Smithton. Enjoy rides, a peach stand and music by Vote for Pedro.
The Troy Homecoming will be from 5 to 11 p.m. Saturday at Tri-Township Park at 409 Collinsville Road in Troy. The Avery Hill Band kicks off at 8 p.m.
4. Belleville Bicentennial: 200
The City of Belleville's year-long bicentennial celebration continues from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday with an art exhibit at The Schmidt Art Center at Southwestern Illinois College, 2500 Carlyle Ave. in Belleville. The exhibit will be on display through Aug. 14.
5. Summer Celebration of Music
Music by the Belleville Philharmonic Inter-Generational Orchestra will be performed at 2 p.m. Saturday at Life Church, 4180 Smelting Works Road in Swansea.
