A former St. Clair County judge's daughter will appear in court next month to answer a misdemeanor traffic charge after striking a pedestrian with her car near Belleville.
Katherine C. O'Malley, 33, of Belleville, struck former Althoff High School basketball standout Kevin Lisch on July 5 as he walked down Country Club Lane near Belleville, according to a traffic crash report.
O'Malley was cited for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident. She is the daughter of former Judge Michael O'Malley. She also is the former girlfriend of convicted Belleville heroin dealer Sean McGilvery.
St. Clair County Sheriff Rick Watson said Deputy Adam Quirin responded to the accident and wrote O'Malley the ticket, but did not give her a field sobriety test.
"He told me that he got to the scene and checked her out and didn't believe that she was under the influence," Watson said. "He told me that if he thought she was, he would have (arrested) her."
O'Malley told Quirin that she was behind the wheel of her 2006 Chevrolet Malibu when she began looking at a home that had some landscaping done and failed to see Lisch in the roadway, Watson said. Quirin listed on his report that the accident was caused by a distraction outside the automobile and failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident. The posted speed limit on Country Club Lane is 30 mph.
Lisch was not seriously injured, and was treated and released from a local hospital, Watson said.
Lisch, 28, played basketball for St. Louis University and was named an academic all-American. He currently plays basketball in Spain for CIA Zargoza.
McGilvery pleaded guilty to distribution of heroin and is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence. McGilvery admitted that he sold heroin to former Circuit Judge Michael Cook, who is serving two years on heroin possession and weapons charges.
Katherine O'Malley has 49 previous traffic tickets in St. Clair County. She has no license revocations or suspensions, according to the Illinois Secretary of State's office.
