There is a slight chance Friday that the metro-east could finally get some much-needed rain.
Patchy fog blanketed the St. Louis region Friday morning, especially in the Belleville and Fairview Heights area. It is expected to burn off by mid morning.
After that, the National Weather Service says there is a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms with the best chance of rain coming after 1 p.m. The high temperature Friday will reach 83 degrees with mostly sunny skies for most of the day.
The chance of storms will last until about 7 p.m. and the low will drop to 60 overnight.
On Saturday, skies are expected to be mostly sunny with a high temperature of 86; on Sunday, it will be 87 under sunny skies.
The next chance of rain, according to the extended forecast, won't come until the latter part of next week, when the metro-east's streak of unseasonably cool temperatures ends and the mercury returns to more typical late summer highs in the 90s.
