BND seeks your input for election coverage

The Nov. 4 election is just three months away, and the BND is about to ramp up its coverage of campaigns for Congress and local and state offices.

Our goals are to give you information that will help you make decisions on Election Day and to make sure you have opportunities to be part of the public conversation throughout the campaign.

Our first step is to build a coverage plan based on issues that are important to you. We'll ask candidates about their positions on these issues, and we'll check their records as well.

But we need your help. We want to know what issues you care about. What are your biggest concerns? What problems do you want your elected representatives to address? What should their highest priorities be? What else do you need to know about the candidates to help you make an informed decision on Nov. 4?

It's your opportunity to help shape our election coverage, set the campaign agenda for the candidates and encourage them to address your issues.

Here are five ways you can weigh in:

* Send an email to Brian Brueggemann, who is leading our politics coverage team, at election@bnd.com or bbrueggemann@bnd.com.

* Don't have email? Send your ideas to Brian at the BND, P.O. Box 427, Belleville, IL, 62222.

* Call our reader line at 618-239-2743.

* Post your comments in the commenting field of this article at bnd.com or on the BND's Facebook page.

* Drop me a note at jcouch@bnd.com or by mail.

Social media will play a bigger role in our coverage this year as a tool for both collecting and disseminating information. Watch for details in a future Politics Notebook column.

In the meantime, we are collecting Twitter handles from candidates and their organizations. Please send yours to Brian Brueggemann.

So let the campaign coverage begin. With your help, we hope to make it our best ever.

And as always, we thank you for reading the BND and visiting bnd.com.
