Roadwork along Illinois 15 is going well, says IDOT project engineer Joe Gasaway.
Crews on Wednesday were excavating between the east and westbound lanes of Illinois 15 at 17th Street to add culverts. Part of the $10 million project includes improving drainage, so IDOT is adding culverts between the east and westbound lanes. It's a small part of the project, Gasaway said, about two weeks' worth.
Asphalt goes on in layers, so some parts of the highway may look complete but have a little more work. Commuters can easily tell which sections are complete -- if the shoulder has been repaved, the work is done there.
Gasaway said the section near the Flying J is complete while the areas closer to Illinois 158 and 159 still need asphalt.
