O'Fallon overpass work will help with long waits for trains

Venita Drive in O'Fallon will be closed for a year between New Taylor Road and Frontage Road starting Monday.

The closure is needed so work on the new Venita Drive overpass may proceed, according to city leaders.

"This temporary inconvenience is part of the railroad overpass construction process that will relieve our citizens and visitors to our community of the long waits for CSX trains to pass through the current crossing," Mayor Gary L. Graham said. "In the end, the long-term benefits of the overpass will dwarf the temporary hardship and ensure better traffic flow in the area."

New Taylor Road is now open; starting on Monday, it will be the access route for residents to reach Venita Drive.

Both entrances to the Family Sports Park will remain open during the construction, and traffic entering or exiting the park should use the park's east entrance. Traffic exiting the west entrance of the Family Sports Park will need to go north on Simmons Road and around the park to reach Obernuefemann in order to continue south to Highway 50.
