It's August in Illinois, so it must be time for the county fair. Not into carnival rides or demolition derbies? Keep reading, we haven't forgotten you.
The big one this weekend is, of course, St. Clair County Fair at the Belle-Clair Fairgrounds. Rides and exhibits open from 2 to 10 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, with Midgets and Micros car races at 6:30. Admission is free but parking is $4; go to bcfairgrounds.net/saint-clair-county-fair for more.
Fairview Heights Homecoming will have a parade (5 p.m. Saturday), car show (9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday) and rides (armband $18) at Moody Park.

"Stage Two" wrestling at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the TriCity YMCA, 451 Niedringhause Ave. in Granite City. Seats are $12 for adults and $10 for children.

Feeling the need for speed? Qualifying and time trials at the Hot Rod Showdown begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Gateway Motorsports Park at 700 Raceway Blvd. in Madison. Top Dragster, Top Sportsman and Comp Eliminator qualify at noon. Eliminations for Comp Eliminator, Top Sportsman and Top Dragster begin at 4 p.m. Eliminations for Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car are at 6 p.m.

The St. Louis International Children's Film Festival wraps up Sunday. Venues and movies are across the St. Louis area (http://cinemastlouis.org/sliffkids-childresn-film-festival) and the closet will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Edwardsville's Wildey Theater at 252 N. Main St. in Edwardsville. The movie there is "My Dog the Champion." Admission is free but limited to 326 people.
