A Granite City man is now facing battery charges alleging he assaulted officers trying to arrest him.
Dakota Childs, 23, of Granite City, was being physically restrained by family members when police arrived at 10:08 p.m. Saturday. Childs was handcuffed and led to the back seat of the squad car when police said he spat in one deputy's face and struggled against them. One deputy suffered a three-inch laceration to his hand, according to the charges.
Childs has been charged with felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor charges of domestic battery and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is currently in custody at the Madison County Jail. His bail was set at $50,000.
