A Smithton-area woman was flown to a hospital after being struck by a car Tuesday morning.
The woman is in her 50s, according to Smithton Fire Chief Mike Schutzenhofer. She was struck around 10:30 a.m. near the intersection of Press and Fischer roads, near where she resides.
The victim’s identity was not immediately released by rescue workers.
Schutzenhofer said he did not know what the woman’s condition was at the time she was flown by an ARCH helicopter crew, which picked her up at the Smithton Fire Department after she was transported there by ambulance. The field where the ARCH helicopter would have landed near the scene was still wet from recent rains, forcing the crew to instead fly to the fire station, Schutzenhofer said.

St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department deputies also assisted at the scene but officials couldn’t be reched for comment Tuesday afternoon.
