Some areas of the metro-east are facing severe weather rolling in Monday night.
The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for southwestern Madison County and northwestern St. Clair County, as well as areas of St. Louis and some surrounding counties.
The storm had already reached Dupo, moving at about 40 mph with quarter-size hail and 60mph gusts of wind, according to the alert. Damage from wind and hail is anticipated for vehicles, roofs, siding and trees.
Impacted towns stretch from Belleville and Columbia north to Edwardsville and Pontoon Beach. In Dupo, where the storm has already hit, St. Clair County emergency management reports that some electrical wires are down and a transformer was on fire.
Residents in the path of the storm are urged to seek shelter inside a sturdy structure and stay away from windows. If power lines are down in your area, Ameren requests that you stay at least 10 feet away and call them at once to report the location. Never drive over or touch a downed wire, and keep family members and pets away from them. Do not attempt to remove a tree limb or other objects from power lines.
