St. Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield, Mo. is offering digital footprints for every newborn using technology that can help better identify a baby, KSDK reports.
Technology from CertaScan can take the digital print of baby’s foot, as well as collect photos and the mother’s index fingerprint. CertaScan says the identification it provides can be critical in cases of abduction, switched babies, natural disasters and abandonment.
The “forensic imprint” goes into a secured database for storage.
A child’s digital footprint would be taken upon any hospital admission, not just newborns, the news station reported.
