Got video surveillance at your Caseyville home or business? The Caseyville Police Department wants to hear about it so they can reach out to you in the event of a crime in your area.
A Facebook post by Caseyville police said police may ask to review video “to assist in the identification and prosecution of suspects.”
Police Chief Tom Coppotelli said registration is purely voluntary.
“I have had a few phone calls on it, telling me it’s a great idea,” Coppotelli said. “We’re trying to look for help.”
The chief said the department has had residents share their video surveillance with the department, and also share their cell phone video, and he expects a list of registered systems to be helpful.
“Anytime we have a residential burglary or something, well in the past we would do a neighborhood canvas. And now we have a 24-hour eye” in the area, he said.
O’Fallon police started a similar program earlier this year.
To register your video surveillance system, call the Caseyville Police Department at 618-344-2151. The department will not make the list public, but may share it with other law enforcement agencies should they ask, Coppotelli said.
