A 51-year-old Fairview Heights man will serve more than six years in prison for robbing the Collinsville Regions Bank on Feb. 10.
Michael Putman was sentenced Thursday in federal court to six years and five months in prison, according to a release from Donald S. Boyce, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois.
Putman crashed his car in a high-speed police chase while fleeing the Collinsville bank. He had walked into the bank and demanded cash, police said. At the time, it was the third metro-east bank robbery in 24 hours.

Putman pleaded guilty to the robbery July 12.
After serving his federal sentence, Putman will serve another eight-year sentence in state prison for burglarizing the China King restaurant in Fairview Heights on Jan. 5. In that case, employees of the restaurant told police that a man had entered the store through a back entrance with a gun and demanded money from the employees.
Putman is a registered sex offender because of a 2011 criminal sexual abuse conviction, which is how an officer recognized him on the China King surveillance footage.
