CrimeStoppers is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for any information leading to the arrest of a person involved in the death of a Cahokia veteran found dead in a burning house Oct. 18.
Howard Sutton, 89, was found dead in an early morning house fire at his home on St. Marcella Drive at about 1:30 a.m. Oct. 18. The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis was activated Oct. 19 after evidence found during an autopsy.
“There were circumstances found to be suspicious enough to investigate this incident as a homicide,” a CrimeStoppers news release said.
Crews attempting to fight the fire were stopped by a “decent” amount of ammunition exploding in the house, said Cahokia Fire Chief Stephen Robbins.
Never miss a local story.
Sutton was a World War II veteran, and a long-time resident of Cahokia.
