Metro-east firefighters battled a pair of fires Thursday night and Friday morning.
The first happened at about 10:30 p.m. in Venice. The second happened in Swansea at about 3 a.m.
The fire in Venice happened in a residence in the 500 block of Washington Street. Neighbors told firefighters the home exploded and then caught fire.
No one was injured because the resident was away on a camping trip, according to fire department reports.

The explosion and fire is considered to be suspicious, and the State Fire Marshal’s Office was investigating.
The second fire happened in a pair of cars next to a house at 123 Brackett Street in Swansea.
Firefighters were intially concerned that the fire could spread to the home. But, according to firefighter radio traffic, the flames were doused before they could spread.
As of early Friday, there was no word how the Swansea fire started.
