State Rep. LaToya Greenwood, D-East St. Louis, issued the following statement Wednesday in response to Gov. Bruce Rauner's budget address:
"I agree with the governor on the need for a balanced budget in Illinois. We do not, however, need another budget littered with tricks and fake savings. We also do not need a budget that hurts our state recovery after the governor's 700 day, $16 billion-in-debt budget crisis.
"Illinois' road to recovery was only solved last year when a bipartisan group of legislators put the interest of Illinois ahead of party politics. Hopefully Rauner will hold true to his words of compromise and cooperation this year instead of more political games.
"It is past time Rauner came to the table as a reasonable leader. If he finally wants to drop the empty words and be in charge for a change, our governor will find that House Democrats are willing to compromise. Because our state cannot afford another budget crisis."
