▪ It appears that 2015 was the last ride for Belleville District 118 school picnic, a fixture in the city for a century and a half.
School leaders say the festival has been discontinued because of a lack of interest with only about 60 percent of the district’s children participating in recent editions of the event.
▪ Four children narrowly avoided tragedy over the weekend when they were sickened by a carbon monoxide leak at a Pontoon Beach motel.
The kids had to be rushed to the hospital when they were overcome by fumes while attending a pool party at the Super 8 off Illinois 111.
The pool remained closed Monday while repairs were made. It was determined the motel had carbon monoxide detectors -- but they weren’t plugged in.
The children are expected to make a complete recovery.
▪ Men blamed for robbing a gas station in Missouri were arrested Monday morning in the metro-east.
The suspects crashed their Pontiac Bonneville off Interstate 64 in Caseyville after a lengthy police chase.
