An elderly driver crashed through the front entrance of Kohl’s department store in Collinsville Monday morning, but no one was injured in the accident.
At about 11 a.m., the driver lost control of her car and drove through the Kohl’s front entrance, according to Major Brett Boerm of the Collinsville Police Department. The car went straight through into the business, Boerm said.
No one was injured, including the driver. Boerm declined to release her name and said no charges would be filed.
“This was just a traffic crash,” Boerm said. “She may have been unfamiliar with a new vehicle.”
The extent of the damage was not immediately known, but the store remained closed as of 12:15 p.m. Kohl’s employees referred questions to their corporate headquarters.
“As a result of a car accident, Kohl’s Collinsville store is currently closed while we assess damage to the building,” said Kohl’s spokeswoman Lyra O’Brien. “We are working with authorities as they investigate what happened.”
