Officials identify man killed in drive-by shooting in East St. Louis
Police found one man dead and two others injured when they arrived in the 2100 block of Martin Luther King Dr. late Sunday night after receiving a call about shootings in the area.
The dead man was identified as Asante McCoy, 20, of East St. Louis. He is the 16th homicide victim of the year for East St. Louis.
East St. Louis Police Captain Bobby Cole said when police arrived at 2127 Martin Luther King Drive, “Our officers found one adult male and two (other) males suffering from gunshot wounds.”
According to Illinois State Police, an adult male and a juvenile were wounded at the scene; another juvenile was not injured. The two wounded subjects were taken to an area hospital and are in critical condition.
Cole said two of the people had bullet wounds in their backs and one person was shot in the upper torso.
All of the victims are East St. Louis residents. They were not identified. A motive for the multiple shooting has not been established.
Police said the four were walking in the area about 11:15 p.m. when someone opened fire, striking three of them.
Police recovered multiple weapons from the scene, but it’s not known whether they were the guns used in the shootings.
East St. Louis Police and Illinois State Police are investigating.
