Village working to extend natural gas line
The village of Grantfork is working with AmerenIllinois to extend the natural gas line from Mary Sue Lane along Illinois Route 160 through the village.
Ameren will allow each customer to receive the first 60 feet from the main to the residence for free. Anything over 60 feet will cost the owner $6.50 a foot. Each customer is responsible for the conversion of their own appliances and any internal piping to meet the code for natural gas and AmerenIllinois. Customers will also be responsible for subbing out their piping for Ameren to make the hook-up. There is no additional hook-up fee. However, the customer’s part must be finished within six months or pay a penalty of $4,565.
The benefits for using the natural gas is the convenience; price does not go up during extremely cold weather; and security of not having to call someone out in the middle of the night; budget billing which makes it easier on those on set incomes; and not having the tank in your yard anymore.
In order to move forward with this project, a commitment from each property owner will need to be made. This includes residential, commercial and churches. The deadline for a response will be Sunday, April 12.
Village Hall will be opened to accept signed agreements on the following dates:
Following the noon deadline, the committee will count the number of commitments to see if they have the required 137 that are needed.
