Highland’s 11th annual community-wide Relay For Life is set for July 10 and 11 at Glik Park.
This year’s committee is planning an exciting Relay using the theme “Luau for Life” and is hot on the trail of teams, team members, survivors and sponsors. The committee’s goal is to raise $100,000, have at least 15 returning teams and five new teams, and at least 110 survivors participating at Relay.
Several teams have already begun holding fundraisers and appreciate the community’s continued support as they work to raise funds for the fight against cancer.
“Paint the Town Purple” days at Highland’s Peanut Butter and Jam Festivals have been set for Friday, June 5, and Friday, June 19. On these two days during PB&J, teams will be on the Square with various fundraisers, registering survivors for the survivor dinner, which is held just prior to Relay, and selling luminaries.
Highland Relay For Life will kick off at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, July 11 and continue until 2 a.m. the next morning. The event will feature a variety of activities and competitions to raise funds for the fight against cancer, celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost to cancer, and raise awareness of and ways to prevent cancer.
One of these activities will be a “Glow Stick-It to Cancer” 5K Run at midnight. Proceeds from the run will benefit Relay and the Highland Chapter of Girls on the Run. For more information, or to preregister, contact Susie Brauns at (618) 971-8963 or Joy Krouper at (618) 409-7864.
