‘Community Day’ will showcase village
The Town-Wide Yard Sale day is now “New Douglas Community Day.” The June 6 “Community Day” is a town-wide effort to support local organizations and businesses and showcase what they have to offer.
Participating organizations include the New Douglas Volunteer Fire Department (NDVFD), the New Douglas Old Firehouse Restoration Crew, the New Douglas Rec Plex, and the New Douglas Girl Scouts, Masons, American Legion and Senior Citizens Club. The New Douglas Christian School and Baptist church will have an information booth at the Community Center.
Community Day is being organized by the New Douglas Annual Yard Sale Committee, and yard sales will still be part of the day’s events. They will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you would like to list your yard sale on our map and event flier, contact committee chair Linda Hunsinger at (618) 402-1726, by text or phone. You can also send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The New Douglas Rec Plex has plans to offer a rummage sale in the old school gym during yard sale hours. Contact Tonya Yetter at (217) 456-1234 to set up inside the gym.
The New Douglas Farmers Market will have room for those who live out of town, but would like to be included in the sales. Contact Rachel Beckett at (618) 823-8944 or email@example.com for more information on how to rent an area of the outdoor market for the day.
Daytime shoppers can enjoy Krispy Kreme doughnuts, for breakfast and pork burgers, hamburgers, chili and hot dogs for lunch at the Community Center, where they can also pick up a yard sale map. There will also be numerous displays at the community center with all the exciting events that New Douglas hosts throughout the year.
NDVFD will serve as a cooling station with free water, blood pressure readings and will also have an open house for children to get up close to the fire trucks and equipment.
In the evening, from 5 to 9 p.m., there will be a free concert at 103 S. Main (the Farmers’ Market), sponsored by the owners of the upcoming “Fliers Grill” opening later in the summer. The band Hard Drive will be playing. There will be giveaways, like T-shirts, cup coolers, and gift certificates to concert-goers. NDVFD will host a beer tent. Soft drinks, water, grilled hot dogs and barbecue pork steak sandwiches will also be available for purchase.
