St. Jacob garage sale days set
St. Jacob Villagewide Garage Sales are Sept. 10-12.
The American Auxiliary Unit 665 will hold a sale in conjunction with the town yard sales from 7 a.m. to noon and 2 to 6 p.m. on Friday and from 7 a.m. to noon on Saturday at the St. Jacob Activity Center. The sale will include everything from furniture to household items.
Legion Auxiliary to host chili dinner

American Auxiliary Unit 665 will hold its second annual all-you-can-eat chili and soup dinner from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25 at the St. Jacob Activity Center. The menu includes homemade chicken noodle soup, vegetable beef, potato coup, chili, hot dogs, dessert, and beverages. Cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children ages 4-10. Kids 3 and under eat free.
‘Balloons Over Marine’ to be the topic at next at Marine Historical Society meeting
On Sept. 14 at 7 p.m., the Marine Historical Society to talk about the upcoming hot-air balloon event, which is scheduled for Sept. 25 and 26 in Marine.
Bill Weder, owner of Marine Coin Co., and RayLynn Meyer will be the guest speakers, telling about what they have planned for this balloon event. This is something new to Marine. Come and learn what it is all about.
Dawn Dykes is planning to show some pictures she has taken of the Vogelbacker Bakery, also.
The meeting will be held at Marine Senior Citizen’s Building located at 101 W. Silver St. in Marine. Society programs and meetings are open to the public to come and hear about past, present, and future of the Marine area.
The regular meeting of the society will follow the presentations. Some things that need discussing is what the society plans to do at the upcoming balloon event. Also on the agenda are the Veterans Memorial project, walking tour of Marine project, and tour ideas.
Membership in the Marine Historical Society is $5 per person or $10 per family and due July t of each year. Those wishing to remain members should pay their dues ASAP. To learn more about the society, check out the website at www.marinehistoricalsociety.org. For more information, call 644-3821.
Marine Library to hold fall book sale
The Marine Library has announced that a fall book sale will be held on Thursday, Sept. 17, only during the Village of Marine Community Yard Sales. The library will be open from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and the library is offering a plastic bag of books for $2.
The library has a good selection of fiction and non-fiction books. There is no charge for a library card for residents of Marine and Marine Township.
Upcoming events include Pumpkin Wars for children ages 5 to 10 on Saturday, Oct. 17.
The next regular Library Board Meeting will be held at the library on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 7:30 p.m.

The pre-K Sunday school class is looking for donations of glue sticks, construction paper and CRAYOLA (only) brand washable markers. Please bring to church and put on the round table in Heritage Hall by Sept. 1.
Don’t forget about the sign-up sheet for mowing grass located on the Heritage Hall Bulletin Board. Remember, the church has the mower to be used.

Marine to play host to hot air balloon, aviation show
Magnificent men and women are coming to Marine with their flying machines.
Enjoy food and refreshments and support community businesses and organizations while you satisfy your curiosity about all things that fly first the annual Hot Air Balloon and Sport Aviation Show.
The festival will be held on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 25 and 26 at Marine Park, which is located in the center of town at 155 S. Duncan St.
On Friday, there will be a balloon launch at 4:30 p.m.
On Saturday, there will be sport aviation exhibits open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. See and learn about helicopters, gliders, RC model airplanes, drones, powered parachutes, sky diving, home-built airplanes, hang gliding, gyro copters and more.
Also, there will be souvenir T-shirts, helium balloons, paper airplane folding, balsa wood gliders, kite flying, face painting and raffles.
Those 18 and younger can also sign up for free airplane rides through the EAA’s Young Eagle Program.
There will also be a balloon launch at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, and a balloon glow at 7:30 p.m.
There will be another balloon launch at 7 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27. Sunday will also as the rain date for the events planned on Saturday.
Marine Elementary collecting Box Tops
Marine Elementary School is again collecting Box Tops for Education.
Goal is to collect 10,000 Box Tops, which would earn the school $1,000. The child who collects the most boxtops during the following time frames will win a prize.
▪ Aug. 24 to Oct. 25
▪ Oct. 26 to Feb. 25
▪ Feb. 26 to May 16
There will also be a prize given to the child who brings in the most Box Tops during the entire year.
Parents should put the Box Tops in a Ziploc bag labeled with the child’s name and amount of Box Tops.
Triad Class of 1965 looking for members
The Triad Class of 1965 is hosting its 50th class reunion the weekend of Oct. 23-24. Super Rally Day
St. Jacob United Church of Christ and St. John UCC in Summerfied are hosting a combined Super Rally Day at the St. Jacob Park on Sunday, Sept. 20. Lunch will be at noon, with food furnished by the Sunday schools. Lunch will be hot dogs, brats with all the fixin’s, all paper goods, plenty of drinks. Bring a covered dish or a dessert to share. If weather does not cooperate, the party will move indoors to Heritage Hall.
