Volunteers sought for Triad Craft Fair
The annual Triad Craft Fair will be Oct. 24-25 at Triad High School. Parent volunteers will be needed to help with setup, kitchen and other duties as assigned. The TABC is also asking each family of a Triad athlete to donate an item to bake sale. Bake Sale items can be delivered to THS on Friday the 23rd after school or Saturday morning the 24th. Please drop them off at the inside concessions area.
HCE lesson will be “Jest For the Health of It”
The Marine Unit of the HCE will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 7:30 p.m. at the Senior Citizens Center in Marine. Dawn Dykes and Sandy Gentry are the hostesses for the evening. The Lesson for Living, “Jest For the Health of It,” will be presented by Sandy Schoeck and Lillian Daiber.
The Madison County HCE Christmas in November is themed “Walking in a Winter Wonderland.” This event will take place on Thursday, Nov. 5 at the LeClaire Christian Church, 1914 Esic Drive in Edwardsville. Doors will open at 6 p.m., with dinner following at 6:30. Tickets are $12 and may be purchased from the unit treasurer or from Maureen Betts. The deadline is Oct. 30.
Don’t forget to gather and bring items needed of Hope for Heroes to benefit our military men and women. Marine unit will be providing two chocolate baskets this year, so members are asked to either bring a donation for the basket or money to the Oct. 20 meeting so items can be purchased.
The Marine Unit has also been asked to donate two centerpieces, which will be given as door prizes and each member is asked to bring two dozen cookies for refreshments for that evening. The group will be discussing how to get its cookies to Edwardsville for the event. Contact Connie Grapperhaus at 887-4827 with any questions.
Triad to host ‘Zombie Run’
Triad High School will host its fourth annual Zombie run on Tuesday, Oct. 27. The run will take place on the THS practice fields and cross country trail. Start time is 5:30 p.m.
The course is 1.5 miles and includes obstacles (5-foot walls, mud pit, hay bale pyramid, etc.) Participants wear a flag belt and run from zombie’s trying to pull their flags. Zombies will be Fitness P.E. students and Triad faculty members only. Survivor medals will be awarded to finishers with at least one flag still intact.
Halloween costumes are encouraged.
Cost is $28 if you register prior to the race. Race day registration is $30. Packet pick-up is on race day only, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the THS nurse’s office, or from 3 to 5:15 p.m. in the THS large gym.

Free screening of film on obesity set at Triad
Anderson Hospital, in partnership with Swank Motion Pictures, will have a free showing of the Fed Up film at THS Knight’s Hall on Oct. 15, starting at 5 p.m. The event is free and will provide information about America’s rising obesity rate.
Marine Library to hold ‘Pumpkin Wars’
The Marine Library Board will host a “Pumpkin Wars” event from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17 at the library, located at 200 E. Silver St. Children ages 5-10 can decorate a pumpkin to take home. Participants must be from the village of Marine or Marine Township or have a library card. You may sign up at the library or call 887-4634 or (618) 520-6551.
St. Jacob Township to provide free flu shots
St. Jacob Township is sponsoring a free Health Fair for residents of the village of St. Jacob and St. Jacob Township. It will be held Thursday, Oct. 29 at the St. Jacob United Church of Christ Heritage Hall, located at 207 W. Main, from 3 to 6 p.m. The Heritage Hall is handicapped accessible.
Free flu immunizations will be given to persons 18 years or older. The flu vaccine will protect against the H1N1 virus. Proof of residency is required.
Other free health screenings will be blood glucose, blood pressure test, heart rate and cholesterol test.

Triad Class of 1965 looking for members
The Triad Class of 1965 is hosting its 50th class reunion the weekend of Oct. 23-24. Legion Auxiliary to host chili dinner
American Auxiliary Unit 665 will hold its second annual all-you-can-eat chili and soup dinner from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25 at the St. Jacob Activity Center. The menu includes homemade chicken noodle soup, vegetable beef, potato coup, chili, hot dogs, dessert, and beverages. Cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children ages 4-10. Kids 3 and under eat free.
