Robert G. Hood, 76, of Sorento died on Friday, Jan. 8, 2016 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 12 and from 8 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 13 at Meridith Funeral Home in Pocahontas. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 13 at Meridith Funeral Home in Pocahontas. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery at a later date.
He was born on July 9, 1939 in Granite City to Mildred Ballard. At 3 months of age, he was adopted by Curtis and Penelope (Behrends) Hood. On Feb. 11, 1959, he married Dolores Tindall at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. She survives in Sorento.
Mr. Hood retired from the Air Force in September 1977 after 20 years of service. He worked in security until about 2005, when he retired. He enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved to talk and had a great sense of humor.

Other survivors include his children, Norman L. (Theresa) Hood of Albuquerque, N.M., Thomas L. (Donna) Hood of Wasilla, Alaska, Gary G. (Deanna) Hood of Breese and Kim G. (Ed) Evans of Pocahontas; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Nola (Rodney) Phillips, Jeanette Bolen, Diane (Larry) Sanders, Frank Burke, Joe (Debbie) Burke, Salena Alfaro, Rick (Betty) Burke; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his birth mother; his parents; a daughter, Katheryn Lynn Hood, who died on April 24, 1985; and brothers, Robert Burke and William Burke.
