A rural Alhambra home was severely damaged by fire Tuesday morning, but no injuries were reported.
Alhambra Fire Chief Alan Daiber said his department got the call for a fire in the 5800 block of Illinois Route 4 before noon. When they arrived, smoke was pouring from below the roof.
Several other area fire departments also responded to the scene for mutual aid.
It took crews more than an hour to get the fire under control and to put out hotspots. Daiber said he believes there was one person in the home at the time of the fire, but they were able to escape before it escalated.

The extent of the damage inside the home was not immediately known, but much of the exterior siding was melted.
It’s unclear what started the fire. Residents of the home declined to comment.
The investigation is ongoing.
