Ida M. Gilreath, 66, of Breese died on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2015 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville.
A graveside funeral service and interment will be held at 10:15 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 28 at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo., with funeral home personnel officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland.
She was born on Aug. 17, 1949 in New Madrid, Mo., to Willis E. and Ida May (Stanfield) Jackson. On June 2, 1989, she married Hugh J. “Jack” Gilreath. He passed away on June 7, 2005.
Mrs. Gilreath grew up in New Madrid, Mo. She had moved to Iowa to live with her sister, and at age 18, moved to Ohio with her first husband. She moved to Highland in 2000, then to Breese four years ago.
She loved her dog, “Baby Jack,” a shih tzu, and her late poodle, “Angel.” She liked to cook and sew and had an avid love of animals of all kinds. She was a member of Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post 5694 in Highland.
Survivors include sons, Bruce W. (Rickie) Pettet of Malta, Ohio, and Burrell F. “Pete” (Beth) Pettet of Corning, Ohio; a daughter, Paula R. (James) Finley of Malta, Ohio; grandchildren, Addie Jo and Ethan J. Finley of Malta, Ohio; sisters, Geneva Day of Sikeston, Mo., and Reva J. (Dennis) Bargetzi of Highland; and brothers, Gary Jackson of East Prairie, Mo., and Sonny Jackson of North City, Ill.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Willis Jackson; and sisters, Maude Lindley, Cally Robinson, Dolly Burris, Sally Mitchell and Janis Nicholaides.
