Anton J. “Tony” Lengermann, 93, of Highland died on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2015 at his home.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16 and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17 at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland, with Father David L. Peters, retired pastor of St. Paul, and Father Charles A. Edwards, pastor of St. Augustine Parish in Ashland, Ill., officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Highland.
He was born on Oct. 6, 1922 in Merino, Colo., to Julius and Mary (Brueggemann) Lengermann. On Oct. 5, 1948, he married Eleanor C. Beckmann. She passed away on Aug. 8, 2013.
Mr. Lengermann moved to Bartelso in 1929. He attended St. Cecelia’s Catholic School in Bartelso.

He enlisted into the U.S. Army and had active duty from Sept. 4, 1945 to Feb. 8, 1947. He attained the rank of sergeant and had duty in Germany during World War II.
He moved to Highland in 1947. He worked for Highland Supply from July 1948 until the spring of 1991. He then worked part-time before officially retiring after 61 years of employment. While working at Highland Supply, he also farmed part-time, raising chickens, cattle, hogs and growing grains.
Mr. Lengermann enjoyed woodworking (making furniture and shelves) and planting a big garden. He was a big St. Louis Cardinals fan. This past Father’s Day, he enjoyed going to Busch Stadium and visiting with his old teammate, Red Schoendienst.
He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland and the Helvetia Sharpshooters Society in Highland. He was a life member VFW Post 5694 in Highland. He was also a former member of both the Holy Name Society and the Highland Sportsman Club.
Survivors include daughters, Ann M. (Alan) Stoecklin of Highland and Ellen K. Anderson of Fairview Heights; a son, Michael G. (Deb) Lengermann of Highland; grandchildren, Jared (Rachelle) Lengermann of Highland, Nathan (Ellen) Hustedde of Lebanon, Brittney Lengermann of Highland, U.S. Navy FTC Adam Hustedde of Jacksonville, Fla., Mallory Lengermann of Highland, Craig Stoecklin of Louisville, Ky., and Tricia Stoecklin of Highland; great-grandchildren, Riley Lengermann, Tayler Reilmann, Caitlyn Hustedde, Addisyn Hustedde, Nolan Lengermann, Claira Hustedde, Aubrie Hustedde and Henry Lengermann; a brother, Joseph (Roberta) Lengermann of Washington, D.C.; a sister, Leona (Roy) Marti of Highland; a brothers-in-law, Alvin Beckmann and John Wellen; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Pollmann, Alice Wellen, Lucille Loepker and Christine Beckmann; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Sister Julia Lengermann, ASC; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Margaret (Alphonse) Schomaker, Aloys J. “Al” (Catherine) Lengermann, William and Frances Beckmann, Frank Beckmann, Wendell Loepker, Rita and Vince Hemker, and Alphonse Pollmann.
Memorials may be made to the St. Paul School Educational Foundation or Hospice of Southern Illinois.
