She grew up and graduated high school in Cahokia. She met her husband, William “Bill” Henderson, in St. Louis County in the summer of 1982, and they married on May 21, 1983 in Cahokia. They both had previous spouses and finally learned what a great marriage was like. He survives in Highland.
Never miss a local story.
Mrs. Henderson loved life and people, and it never took her long to make enduring friendships. To her, the invention of Facebook was a blessing, as she was able to eliminate the miles and keep up with old friends and, most importantly to her, her large family, which had spread out across the country. All it took was a trip to the other room and the computer to watch nieces and nephews (including great and great-great) grow up or stay in touch with old friends. Many said they made it a point to see her daily postings, as it made their day.
She is also survived by sisters, Shirley (Herman) Gansert of Belleville, Glenda Powell of Schofield, Wis., Terry Heitman of Okawville, Tonia (Earnest) Smith of Litchfield and Beckie Scurlock of Litchfield; brothers, Fred Garrett of Belleville and Danny Garrett of Hillsboro; many nieces and nephews; and her pets, Cinnamon, Cookie, Teddy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Doris Smith.
Memorials may be made to American Heart Association.
