Ruth A. Meffert, 85, of Highland died on Sunday, Nov. 15, 2015 at Faith Countryside Homes/Faith Care Center in Highland.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 18 at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland and from 9 to 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19 at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland. A funeral service will follow the visitation on Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Christopher W. Hill, senior pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Grantfork United Church of Christ Cemetery.
She was born on June 30, 1930 in Highland to William T. and Alice M. (Duft) Miener. On Oct. 28, 1948, she married Glenn A. Meffert. He passed away on June 24, 2012.
Mrs. Meffert grew up on a farm west of Highland. She moved to the Grantfork area at age 16. She was a waitress at Diamond Mineral Springs and had also worked at East End Mercantile in Highland.

After marriage, she helped operate a grain and dairy farm with her husband. They moved to Highland in 1965, after retiring from farming. She worked as a secretary for her husband’s Country Companies Insurance Agency.
She enjoyed traveling and toured Europe, Hawaii and all over the USA. She also liked gardening and yard work. She enjoyed spending time and helping with the grandchildren.
She was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland. She was a former member Grantfork United Church of Christ, as well as the Order of Eastern Star Highland Chapter 524, where she was a past worthy matron, and the Women’s Guild at Grantfork UCC, where she had been a past president.
Survivors include sons, Paul G. (Joyce) Meffert of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Robert W. (Carol) Meffert of Highland; daughters, Nancy R. Koch of Highland and Beverly E. (Stephen) Leidner of Greenville; a brother, Vernon W. Miener of Highland; a sister, Betty J. (Walter) Steiner of Highland; grandchildren, Adam L. (Alexandra) Meffert of Grantfork, Aaron A. (Sarah) Meffert of Smyrna, Ga., Austin C. (Jennilee) Meffert of Norfolk, Va., Jefferson D. (Carolyn) Meffert of Chattanooga, Tenn., Janell G. (Robert) Engelman of Wentzville, Mo., Douglas G. (Marci) Smith of Highland, Teresa R. (Nick) Jones of Troy, Mo., Katherine A. R. (Brandon) Czarnecki of Florissant, Mo., Crystal B. (“Roy”) Jorgensen of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Jordan A. Willeford of Greenville; a step-grandchild, Katie Gadd of Chattanooga, Tenn.; 16 great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and a step-great-great-grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by her father, who died on Feb. 9, 1986; her mother, who died on April 18, 1987; a son, David Meffert, who died as an infant on Aug. 24, 1950; and a brother, Donald P. Miener, who died on April 1, 2005.
