Jane F. Vahlkamp, 87, of Breese died on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016 at Aviston Countryside Manor.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 19 and again on Wednesday, Jan. 20 from 8 to 10:30 a.m. at the Moss Funeral Home in Breese. The Breese American Legion Auxiliary will hold services at 7 p.m., followed by the Daughters of Isabella, Tuesday evening at the funeral home. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 20 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Breese with Father Chuck Tuttle and Deacon Bob Lippert officiating. Burial will be in St. Dominic-St. Augustine Cemetery in Breese.
She was born on Aug. 21, 1928 in Breese to Kasper and Rose (Heimann) Richter. She married John B. “Jack” Vahlkamp on Oct. 25, 1950 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Breese. He passed away on Feb. 3, 2004.
Mrs. Vahlkamp, along with her husband, worked on their dairy farm in Carlyle until retirement. They moved to Breese in 1995. She was an avid sewer and sewed more than 200 quilt tops for church. She also hand quilted. In addition to sewing and quilting, she enjoyed embroidering, crocheting, spending time with her grandchildren, and watching the St. Louis Cardinals.
She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and St. Monica Altar Sodality in Breese, Daughters of Isabella Precious Blood Circle 718, Breese American Legion Post 252 Auxiliary and Clinton County Farm Bureau. She was a former member of the Clinton County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee and Clinton County Homemakers Extension. She was former president and office holder of the St. Ann Sodality in Carlyle and was a past 4-H Leader for seven years.
Surviving are her children, Alan (Janet) Vahlkamp of Walnut Hill, Julie (Joe) Huels of Carlyle, Lisa (Carl) Tebbe of Nashville and Rose (Gerard “Shorty”) Huelskamp of Breese; grandchildren, Leagha Woerner, Erika (Matt) Thompson, Erin (Jared) Amason, Alie and Abie Vahlkamp, Zachery, Cody, Ashley and Alex Huels, Nick, Casey and Max Tebbe, and Colton, Dawson and Adison Huelskamp; great-grandchildren, Alexius, Aurora, Aslyn, Jase and Abel; her siblings, Lorene Niemeyer and R. Joe (Barbara) Richter, all of Breese; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Willene Fehrmann, Rose Marie (Ray) Husmann of Breese, Lillian (Jack) Fleckenstein of New Milford, Conn., Fred (Mary Jo) Vahlkamp of Decatur, Ill., Vernon (Helen) Vahlkamp of Carlyle, Mary Huwa of Wheat Ridge, Colo., and Lee (Dan) Love of Albers; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Estelle Kueneke; brothers, Ray Richter, Norbert Richter, Richard Richter, and Casper Richter; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Rose (Wilken) Vahlkamp; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Art Kueneke, Louisa Richter, Flora Richter, Dorothy Richter, Dorothy H. Richter, Colette Vahlkamp, Gene Niemeyer and Paul Fehrmann.
