The Highland High School wrestling team traveled to Hillsboro and easily climbed over the Hilltoppers, 66-12, on Tuesday, Jan. 16.
It was supposed to be a triangular meet but Mount Zion did not show up to compete.
Almost half of the Bulldogs’ final team score came from forfeits. Highland received five forfeits which totaled 30 team points. Both teams had a double forfeit at 120 pounds.
All of the other six victories for the Bulldogs came via pinfall.
Never miss a local story.
The quickest pin of the night came at 132 pounds where Tanner Burke needed a scant 25 seconds to smother Cameron Wilson.
Tyler Frank (285 pounds) and Christian Zuccarelli (170 pounds) also earned pins in the first period of their respective matches.
Frank scored a fall at the 1:33 mark while Zuccarelli stuck Baron Floyd with just one second remaining on the clock in the opening period.
At 145 pounds, Colby Davis tallied a pin in the second period as he planted Noah McCormick’s shoulders to the mat at the 2:30 point of their match.
In addition, Devin Wills (160 pounds) and Colton Brown (126 pounds) claimed third-period pinfalls.
Wills, who is 21-3 on the season, led 10-0 to start the third period. He started on bottom and quickly scored a reverse before scoring the pin 37 ticks into the final period. At the time of the pin, Wills would have already won by 15-0 technical fall but went ahead and gained the extra point for the pinfall.
At 126 pounds, Brown never surrendered a point and finally completed the pin at the 5:02 mark.
Winning on forfeits for Highland were Garrett Metz at 106 pounds, Tanner Schranz at 113 pounds, Aex Reed at 182 pounds, Isaac Winter at 195 pounds and Tyler Langendorf at 220 pounds.
Half of Hillsboro’s 12 points came on a forfeit at 152 pounds.
