Donald L. MacKnight, 86, of O’Fallon, Ill., died on Friday, Jan. 29 at Lebanon Care Center in Lebanon, Ill.
Donald was born on April 3, 1929 in Lancaster, Mass. At a young age, he joined the Army Air Corps, achieving the rank of sergeant. Afterward, he was a flooring salesman and worked for Schwartz Furniture in O’Fallon, Carpet Mart, and Thompson’s Fuel & Oil. He was also a member of the O’Fallon Sportsman’s Club, and enjoyed carpentry, woodworking, fixing up houses and walking his dogs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Marguerite MacKnight (nee Casson); two brothers; George MacKnight and Robert MacKnight.
Donald is survived by his wife Dorothy MacKnight (nee Dallas); sister-in-law Edith Dallas; two children Peggy (Gary) Moeller of Red Bud and Ron MacKnight of Wright City, Mo.; brother Bill MacKnight of Riverside, R.I.; six grandchildren Brian Moeller, Heather Fry, Nick Moeller, Kylie MacKnight, Jacob MacKnight and Danielle MacKnight; five great grandchildren Corbin Moeller, Grace Moeller, Bristol MacKnight, Alyson Fry and Samantha Fry; and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3 at Schildknecht Funeral Home, 301 S. Lincoln Ave. in O’Fallon.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3 at the funeral home.
Interment will follow at O’Fallon City Cemetery.
