Police ID man killed in alleged home invasion in Millstadt area

Police on Saturday released the identity of a man shot and killed Thursday by a Millstadt area homeowner during an alleged home break-in.

Lloyd A. Turner, 62, was from Sikeston, Missouri, said St. Clair County Sheriff's Department Capt. Scott Weymouth.

The Sheriff's Department released Turner's name after Turner's family was notified.

As of Friday, police had not identified the man suspected of breaking into a home at 2113 Imbs Station Road.

Turner did not carry identification and the license plate on the vehicle he drove to the home was not registered to him.

Sheriff's deputies found the suspected burglar dead near a vehicle parked in the driveway of the home. The suspect died from a single shot from the homeowner's handgun.

Authorities fingerprinted the suspect and performed an autopsy, but were not able to immediately identify the man

Police previously said the homeowner, a 72-year-old man, is not likely to face charges in the incident. The homeowner did not know the intruder, police said.

The homeowner reported a burglary in progress about 12:41 p.m. Thursday. The burglary on Thursday was the third one reported at the home.
