A 31-year-old Cahokia man who threatened to sexually assault a Cahokia police officer's daughter was charged Wednesday in connection with the offense.
Chad E. Antoniou of 740 St. Nicholas St., Cahokia, was charged with threatening a public official.
The warrant, issued by St. Clair County State's Attorney Brendan Kelly's office, said Antoniou "issued a unique threat that would place a member of the officer's immediate family in reasonable apprehension of future bodily harm."
Specifically the threat was that "the defendant was going to commit sexual assault against the officer's daughter," the warrant stated.
"The threat was conveyed because of the hostility of the defendant toward the status or position of the officer," according to the charging document.
Cahokia Detective Dennis Plew said Cahokia police went to Antoniou's house initially, on June 24, to investigate a report of domestic battery.
"He was arrested at the residence, brought to the police station and processed. After he was placed in a cell, Antoniou became agitated to the point that we had to restrain him," Plew said.
"He started making threats to one of our sergeant's family. We felt he would carry it out so we presented our case to the state's attorney's office.
Antoniou is a registered sex offender. He was convicted in St. Clair County in 1999.
